Determine the importance of your new birdcage chandelier. If it is close to the weight of your current chandelier, you do not need to change the roof connection box. But if the chandelier is heavier than your current, buy and install a connector box that will support the weight of your new chandelier. Turn off the power to the circuit where the chandelier will be placed. When you think you have turned off the power, use a circuit tester to verify.
Remove the old chandelier. As you perform this step, note how the fixture was installed and mark the cables with a tape. If you decided that a new connection box was required in step one, install it now. Install the new hardware from the birdcage chandelier on the mounting strap. If there is no mounting tape, install one at this point. Either one uses the chandelier or bought one. Screw the fasteners to the connector box. Wire the new chandelier just as the chandelier was. Remember to connect similar colors. You will need to remove approximately half a centimeter of the insulation from each new thread before connecting it to the cable that was previously attached to the old chandelier.
